Gas Chromatography
Gas chromatography combined with a flame ionization detector and mass spectrometry is an analytical technique particularly useful for chemical characterization, identification and quantification of organic compounds with low molecular weights (< 650amu). CEAR houses a Varian CP-3800 temperature programmable gas chromatograph equipped with two detector systems, flame ionization (FID) and mass spectrometer fitted with capillary columns and auto sampler.
Some of our applications for GC/MS include:
- Evaluation of the effectiveness of purification procedures
- Characterization of unknown substances
- Identification and quantification of a diverse range of organic compounds
