Saint Mary's University is the leading primarily undergraduate research university in the Atlantic provinces. Research activities encompass a wide range of disciplines. These include cutting-edge and innovative sciences and engineering, finance and management, and impactful social sciences and humanities. Our unwavering commitment to advancing knowledge and making a meaningful difference in the world is at the core of everything we do.

Saint Mary's University is distinguished by its expansive and vibrant Faculty of Arts, the renowned Sobey School of Business and the dynamic Faculty of Science. The university takes immense pride in its dedicated researchers, including professors, post-doctoral fellows, research associates, technicians, graduate students and senior undergraduate students. Together, they conduct a diverse array of theoretical and analytical research that promotes academic and research excellence and fosters meaningful connections with communities beyond our campus, making a significant impact.

Research activities at Saint Mary's involve a wide range of collaborations with government agencies, private sector companies, grassroots initiatives, not-for-profit organizations, and international entities.

The Research Office, led by the Associate Vice-President, Research and Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research (FGSR), serves as the support hub for over a hundred researchers at the university. A dedicated administrative team assists researchers in navigating all stages of securing and managing research funds, from grant development to post-award.

In January 2005, the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research (FGSR) established the Office of Innovation and Community Engagement (OICE) with a clear and impactful mission: to cultivate and enhance research collaborations between our faculty and external communities. The OICE acts as a key point of contact for faculty members and external parties, guiding them in developing research relationships, collaborations, and contracts, while also facilitating the transfer of cutting-edge technology and knowledge generated through the innovative research conducted at Saint Mary's.
