Dr. Kate Ervine holds a PhD in Political Science from York University, Canada. Her current research, funded by a SSHRC Insight Grant (2025-2030), comparatively examines models of carbon dioxide removal (CDR) finance globally, along with policies for responsibly scaling durable CDR and its integration into green industrial strategies. Drawing on the tradition of political economy, Dr. Ervine’s research focuses broadly on global environmental governance and climate change mitigation policy, with her current project building on her ongoing research on global carbon markets, carbon offsetting, and the politics of global climate finance. She is the author of Carbon, published with Polity Press in 2018, numerous journal articles and book chapters, and in 2022 she co-produced and released a short documentary, The Carbon Cage, with Scientific American.
